The club welcomed Karen Thorburn back as a guest speaker, following her previous photography presentation to the club back in 2019.
Meeting – 6 October 2022
Our first assignment theme was All from a Mobile when members submitted their best mobile phone images to the scrutiny of their colleagues.
Meeting – 22 September 2022
Cheese & wine. After a Covid gap of more than two-years we’re back with a well-attended fun opening night. We welcomed a few new faces too.
On 22-Sep Rich Dyson gave an excellent talk on Myth Busting Photography.
2019/2020
April 2020: Due to Covid-19 meeting restrictions, the Image of the Year competition on 2-Apr was a virtual meeting.
Ian Goodall produced, and distributed to club members, an AV of the entries and results, including Judge Charles Summer’s feedback and scores.
March 2020: The 3-way Match-an-Image competition between North Berwick, Biggar and Livingston became a 2-way between North Berwick and Livingston CC.
This was Livingston’s first match-an-image, and guess what, they won by 3 points.
A great evening was enjoyed by all, helped by the large group of visitors from Livingston!
North Berwick are already planning their revenge next year in Livingston.
February 2020: The Stairs assignment, judged by members, was won by Alastair White.
Chris Swan couldn’t make it so club member Alastair White stepped in with his talk Photography in the Desert – Challenges, Opportunities and Rewards.
January 2020: Photographer Gordon Terris, of The Herald, gave a talk on the Construction of the Queensferry Crossing, supported by many of his superb photos.
In addition, Gordon showed us a selection of his published photographs supporting various news stories.
November 2019: Neil Scott, of Edinburgh Photographic Society, gave an excellent talk, In my Mind’s Eye.
We enjoyed an extra meeting – a Light Painting Workshop – with David Gilliver who enthralled us with his and excited us with our own amazing “painting with light” photos.
The annual Chairman’s Trophy was won by Rob Rogers, with Maggi Doak runner-up and Val Stuart third.
Judge David Saddler from Dundee CC also awarded highly commended to images by Steve Kydd, Margaret Miller, Rob Rogers and Neil Milton.
A Match-an-Image away vs Haddington CC was won by North Berwick.
October 2019: Karen Thorburn, who lives on the Black Isle, treated us to an excellent double presentation – Landscape and Wedding Photography.
We held the North Berwick Challenge Trophy Match-an-Image against Musselburgh CC which, unfortunately, had to be declared a draw due to a misunderstanding of the rules.
September 2019: At the opening night – when several new members joined – Cheese & Wine, several members showed their summer photos.
Club member Ian Goodall gave the first talk of the season on Book Publishing and his postcard book From North Berwick with love.
2018/2019
April: At the AGM Maria Djumic was elected Vice-Chairman and Bob Fleet joined our committee – see Contact us.
Huge thanks to Val Stuart and Bill Ellis who stepped down after several years of sterling service. Congratulations to Karen Stout who won our 2018/19 Image-of-the-Year competition, judged by Stephen Lipton, with Shelter. Joyce Hunnam was second with Pastel Bass Rock and third place was shared by Neil Spowart with Traigh Mhor and Joyce Hunnam with Bridge to Nowhere.
Our Match-an-Image Challenge Trophy competition away against Biggar Camera Club was a draw when Biggar came from behind on the 40th, and final, image of the evening.
March: Club member Alastair White gave an interesting talk on Useful Software Utilities.
Several members gave a wide range of talks on subjects of their choice.
February: Club member Neil Spowart gave an excellent ‘portraits’ talk on People I Shoot … using his new iPad.
We visited Musselburgh Camera Club for the first time when, against all the odds, we managed to overwhelm them with our Match-an-Image expertise.
Next year they promised a rematch when the result might be closer.
An internal Street Photography assignment, judged by members, was won by Jane Lowe with Ian McDougall second and Karen Stout third.
January: The New Year began with the annual North Berwick Challenge Trophy, a fun Match-an-Image against Beeslack at home and won by North Berwick.
Later in the month, David Sadler’s excellent talk And Now for Something Completely Different lived up to its title. North Berwick Photographic Society Winner, Image of the Year, 2018-19 Shelter by Karen Stout.
Image of the Year 2019Shelter by Karen Stout December 2018: Derek Clark gave us an inspiring talk on Shooting Strangers and other Humane Acts about documentary and street photography.
Our annual Christmas Dinner was held in the marquee room at the Open Arms Hotel in Dirleton.
November: At Midlothian Camera Club we won a Match-an-Image and we hosted Haddington Camera Club for a 20-images-each Framed competition which Haddington won.
Our Chairman’s Trophy, judged on the evening by Gordon Scott from Mid Calder Camera Club, was won by Ian McDougall with Old Pier, Kenmore, Joyce Hunnam’s Swanning About was second and Val Stuart’s Douglas Loch a close third.
October: Stephen Ball judged our members’ assignment Round Things.
Dougie Cunningham gave his talk Photographing Scotland, a five-year ‘journey’ covering the whole of Scotland and capturing fantastic photographs for his recently-published book (superb book, available on Amazon) of the same title. September: Billy Currie gave a superb talk Is getting it right enough? The truth, lies and myths of photography.
For our first meeting of the new season we enjoyed a Cheese & Wine when members also showed their summer holiday images.
